Dublin, Ireland based Java Republic Ltd, specialist coffee roaster anddistributor, was set up in 1999 by David McKernan, a passionatecoffee enthusiast, whom having visited the famous Caffe Romaback in 1995 on Columbus Avenue in San Francisco becameinspired, developing aspirations to own his own café and roasteryone day.Since 1999 Java Republic has grown from strength to strengthsetting industry standards for ethics in coffee and developing theworld’s first purpose built Carbon Neutral Coffee Roastery in 2008where you can now enjoy a cup of your favourite handroastedbeans in the adjoining Cafe whilst observing operations in thecoffee roastery.
David McKernan, founder and ownerof Java Republic secured funding forthe company in January 1999 havingleft his position within the CampbellBewley Company the previous year.By May of 1999 they had moved in totheir first roastery and in Septemberthey began trading. In their secondyear of trading, they becameprofitable and over the subsequent sixyears they grew from strength tostrength, expanding their productrange and their range of distributionacross the whole of Ireland.After December 2006, following amajorly disruptive stock issue, and onthe back of further extensive growth,David McKernan made the decisionthat the whole program of operationsneeded to be reviewed and ultimatelychanged.

With further growth anticipated andafter the serious stress and disruptioncaused in 2006/early 2007 David wasresolute it was necessary to invest in anintegrated solution that they could relyupon going forward.
David set out to find a solution thatwould integrate operations across thebusiness including production, service,asset management, dispatch andfinance.Java Republic carried out acomprehensive analysis across thebusiness, brought in an externalconsultant and reviewed the 5 topsystems. Amongst the bespoke systemsthe standardised yet flexible and easilycustomisable SAP Business One wassuggested.Having arranged a meeting with theleading Gold Partner, IntelligentInformation Systems (IIS), Daviddeveloped an immediate rapport andrelationship with Morgan Browne, theManaging Director.David and his Managing Director, GraceO'Shaughnessy, visited a number of IIScustomer reference sites to see SAPBusiness One in action and the decisionbecame an easy and obvious one.Based on the reputation of IIS and theSAP Business One brand, the goodword of customers, and the easyrelationship with IIS, they choose toimplement SAP Business One.
