Intellectual freedomthe freedom to access information and express ideas, even if the information and ideas might be considered unorthodox or unpopularprovides the foundation for Banned Books Week. BBW stresses the importance of ensuring the availability of unorthodox or unpopular viewpoints for all who wish to read and access them. Some frequently challenged books include F. First trimester of new Information Literacy Skills Class

The first trimester of our new Information Literacy Skills Class is now in session. Students in this class are learning to become more comfortable in clearly defining a subject or area of investigation, formulating a search strategy that encompasses various sources of information, and analyzing the information collected for value, relevancy, and quality. Students are also exploring how to use various forms of social media in the research process by experimenting with different presentation formats, online collaborative tools, and understanding how one can use social media responsibly in an academic setting. In library newsletters to come, there will be a Social Media Corner in which a new social media technology is profiled each month. This month, were profiling Wikispaces. Wikispaces is an online tool that can be used to build communities. With Wikispaces, groups have the freedom to publish pages and discuss content with no real technical knowledge required. A great tool for collaboration in the research process, our Information Literacy Skills class contributes to and discusses class assignments regularly on a wiki created specifically for our class. For more information about Wikispaces, or to create your own class wiki, please visit: http://www.wikispaces.com/
