Demand a Supplemental Appropriation to fix the states broken budget.

Governor Quinn is withholding pay raises and plans to close down vital state services and lay off 2,000 employees all in violation of collective bargaining agreements. Quinn is flat-out wrong to launch this attack on basic union rights and AFSCME and other unions are challenging him in court and battling him at every turn. But the governor is not wrong when he says that legislators failed to appropriate sufficient funding to sustain state operations for this year. This budget is short more than $300 million. So even as we continue to battle the governor, weve got to turn our efforts to the General Assembly. Tell your legislators to pass a supplemental appropriation sufficient to fund pay raises and prevent closures and layoffs when they return for the fall Veto Session in late October. Every AFSCME member has a big stake in this fight. So be sure to call your state representative and your state senator during the AFSCME Call-In weeks.

Tell your legislators: I urge you to support passage of a supplemental appropriation that would provide sufficient funds to keep all state agencies operating and fulfill all contractual obligations. Dont give Governor Quinn an excuse to trample on our union contract.
