IMPACT OF SELF-DISCLOSURE 2AbstractThe number of users signing up for a Facebook account is growing at a rapid rate and hasbeen since it was created in 2004. Starting off by invitation with only Harvard University,Facebook has spread to more than 600 million users worldwide. Founder, Mark Zuckerberg, hascreated a website that users have the power to disclose as much or as little information aboutthemselves as desired. Along with the ability to create public profiles, there is a blog, twitter, andYouTube account that users can follow to stay more up to date with Facebook. This paper
examines the extent to which college undergraduate users’ self
-disclose personal information onFacebook, along with the potential benefits and risks users should take in consideration if theyhave not already. Through questionnaires, this concept of self-disclosure is examined. Theparticipants will be asked to share their views on self-disclosure, how much they do it, and if they have witnessed any positive or negative things happening from self-disclosure.
