On Monday September 20, 2011 the MCSO released information and asurveillance video in which a person was seen looking through the window of avehicle. Next door to where this video was captured suspect(s) broke out a car window and took a purse from the vehicle. The video and case information wasreleased to the local media, posted on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page andTwitter accounts and was released to Crime Stoppers. As a result of thiscoverage, several calls came in to the Crime Stoppers hotline and
a suspectwas identified as Josh Swigert (see below).
Swigert was contacted by MCSO detectives by phone and he agreed to come infor an interview on September 21, 2011. He did not show up and claimed that hewas having trouble getting back to Missoula after fleeing the area when thecoverage of the video went out. Swigert again agreed to come in to the sheriff’soffice on September 22, 2011 but again he never showed up.The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office is now asking that if anyone knows thewhereabouts of Josh Swigert, please call Detective Jon Gunter at 406-531-1756or you can call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 406-721-4444. Swigert may bein the Butte area.
Swigert has been identified as a suspect in several other local vehicle break-in cases.
During the last few days Crimes Stoppers has been a very resourceful tool for local law enforcement. Calls from tipsters have catapulted several investigationstoward a successful conclusion. It may be that Missoula citizens are growingtired of those in our community who are chose to victimize others.
