RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Classes start September 11 for students in grades 1 - 10! All parents are urged to attend a parent meeting the first week of classes in the gym. We will meet together with the children to pray a Living Rosary. The children will be released to their classrooms while we have a short parent meeting. After the meeting you will have the opportunity to visit your childs classroom and meet their teacher. You will then be dismissed by the classroom teacher. This year, class time on Sunday morning has changed; students in grades 1 - 10 will meet on Sunday morning from 9:10 - 10:40 a.m. Scheduling classes at these times provides families the opportunity to worship together at the ll:00 Mass after picking the children up from Class. Confirmation parents and students mark your calendars for a parent meeting the first day of classes on October 2! The religious education office strives to offer to our families a program which meets the parishs responsibility to assist you in the formal faith formation of your children. If you have not received a schedule, you can download one at our parish website www.olmc-erie.org. If you have any questions, please contact me in the religious education office at 825-7609, ext. 105. Peace in Christ Jesus. Sue Berdis, Religious Education Leader

CAMP NOTRE DAME ...weekends are coming up! Two Father/Son and two Mother/ Daughter weekends are planned beginning this September and continuing through November. Parents can visit CNDs website; www.campnotredame.com or phone 474-5001 for more information and registration forms. A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE Relationships live in a careful balance. If a person changes, the balance is altered requiring a shift in the relationship. In todays gospel Jesus announced a change and Peter resisted. Sometimes, those we count on for support may actually get in the way. Jesus told Peter: You are an obstacle to me.

Many thanks are due to the Pastoral Council under the leadership of its president, Tim Nowakowski, the PTC of our Parish School, led by its president, Liz Barry, our Ladies Guild, the Mens Council and our MCAA for the tremendous Parish, School, and Alumni Picnic last Sunday. Our Advancement Director, Sue Rinderle handled the Saturday activities and organized the Bake-Off competition. It was tough being a judge for the excellent cooks and bakers of the parish! But, Maria Pregler took first prize with the Fruit Cheesecake (I love eating healthy!) and her mother took third place with her world-famous chocolate chip cookies. Second place, and the only non-Pregler winning a prize was captured by Carolyn St. George. Oh, did I mention that Andy Pregler won the 50-50? It was a lucky day to be a Pregler, unless you count our Deacon who won a watery Prize repeatedly at the dunking booth. I cant believe what great pitching arms some of the first graders and kindergarteners in our parish school are gifted with. Of course, Fr. Jason Feigh found that out himself. He won the prize for the most times in the water! By the time your pastor climbed aboard the plank of death, most of those pitching arms were so tired out that he ended up in the oh-so-warm water very few times! What a disappointment! Thanks to Becky Henry and the MCAA for the booth and the inflatable obstacle course they arranged for. In the feature race of the day, Fr. Jason beat out your pastor and deacon at the wire. It was a photo-finish since Ms. Rinderle was there with her ever-present camera. Look for some interesting photos on our parish and school websites in the near future. Thanks are also due to our Magician-Extraordinaire, Tim Grunzel, who entertained the crowd with a very enjoyable, may I say magical, performance. How does he do that card trick, anyway? You may have noticed some equipment on the south side of the church lately. It seems that the ventilation of the glass windows protecting our stained glass has not worked properly. This has caused some damage to the wood on the outside of the windows due to condensation. This is being repaired. As we checked the windows, a small break in one piece of glass was noticed in the Annunciation window. That has already been repaired. The work should be completed this week. When you have such valuable religious art, you have to take proper care of it! You have also probably noticed (I hope!) the changes made to our sound system in church. We are waiting a few weeks before we make some adjustments. But, things seem louder to me, at least. Of course, your pastor barely needs a microphone to be heard! Let me know how the sound seems to you, especially those of you in the more expensive rear seats. This is our last weekend before classes begin in our parish school. I even know some who are excited about the opening of school (besides parents, that is!). I look forward to greeting our new students and their families and beginning my weekly classes with the eighth grade. I know they share my excitement! Soon, we will be welcoming our Religious Education students and catechists for the start of their year. We also are getting ready to start a new year with the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, more commonly known as RCIA. We already have had a number of calls about the program. If you, or someone you know wants to find out more about the Catholic Church or complete their sacraments of initiation, call the rectory. Our Religious Education Leader, Sue Berdis, Dr. Pregler and I are very much looking forward to a new group of candidates and a new year of learning the faith with them. Thanks again to all those who made our Parish, School and Alumni picnic so successful. Happy last week of summer vacation! Fr. Ray
