News-Herald questions. 9-21-11 1. Economic Development & Taxes. Local taxes and our city's finances are a common topic of discussion as I have been on my door-to-door "listening tour". I will work towards a greater effort to bring in new business to help build the Eastlake economy and jobs for our residents. I will advocate for an Economic Development Task Force or Council Committee. On the expense side, we need to be sure our tax dollars are spent effectively. I plan to work with my colleagues to explore the formation of an Independent Audit committee or a professional Performance Audit, to be sure the residents are getting the best for their hard earned tax dollars.

2. Safety in our environment.

Protection of our residents is the highest priority.

Through our fine Police, Fire and Service departments, we must preserve Eastlake as a safe and healthy place to live, from the youngest to the oldest. Eastlake has many residents who have lived their entire lives in our City. I am looking forward to meeting with the administration to ensure that our personnel have the tools they need to get the job done. With the budget challenges we face, we need to make certain we elect people who place service to others as top priority.

3. The Image of the City of Eastlake.

From the diverse physical characteristics to

the true friendliness of the people who live here, the City should reflect our image. Image attracts business and residents. There are three major assets Eastlake can boast of, not replicated elsewhere: the Chagrin River, our Lake Erie shoreline and Classic Park. Our shopping districts offer consumers many choices. We can do more to enhance these areas, even in the most basic way. Our commercial and residential streetscapes can be looked at as an image boosting enhancement opportunities. Personally, as your elected representative, I will always be professional, courteous, and friendly to my constituents and colleagues.

Whether for past accomplishments or future goals, why should voters elect you? My life has always been about serving. From the most important role in life, as a mother of four and now grandmother of eight, to serving in my church and as a volunteer in the community, I come to realize life is truly all about service. Now, I am honored to have the opportunity to serve in my city as a councilwoman and be a voice for our residents. Listening to their concerns in the process of my door to door "listening tour", I've found that reinforcement to my commitment to serve others. In the 28 years my husband and I have lived here, I've witnessed our city grow, change, and sometimes struggle. I am confident that whatever challenges face us on Council, I will help create an environment of cooperation, service, and commitment to our residents and our businesses that are located here. I love our city and working together, we can polish our "Crown Jewel of Lake County".
