September 28, 2008 GAME 4 Texas Stadium
Irving, Texas
The Redskins won their third straight contest by handing the Dallas Cowboys their first loss of the season, 26-24,
in the final regular season meeting between these longtime rivals at Texas Stadium.
Dallas opened the scoring on its third drive of the game when Tony Romo hit Jason Witten on a 21-yard
touchdown pass. The Cowboys moved 60 yards in six plays over 2:35, highlighted by a Romo to Patrick Crayton 23-yard
completion to the Redskins’ 32-yard line on third-and-five.
Washington answered on the ensuing possession by marching 79 yards on 10 plays, capped by a Jason Campbell
to James Thrash three-yard touchdown pass. Campbell completed 6-of-7 passes for 60 yards on the drive, while Antwaan
Randle El hauled in two balls for 30 yards and rushed for five yards.
Washington grabbed its first lead on its next possession when Campbell threw a two-yard touchdown to Randle El
after a seven-play 51-yard drive. The biggest play of the possession was a 28-yard completion from Campbell to Moss to
give Washington the ball at the Dallas 6. Moss also set up the game’s next score when he was on the receiving end of a
53-yard strike from Campbell to give the Redskins the ball at the Cowboys 8-yard line. After Washington failed to get
into the end zone, Shaun Suisham connected on the first of his four field goals to give the Redskins a 17-7 advantage.
Moss racked up 125 yards receiving in the first half and finished the day with eight catches for 145 yards.
The Cowboys took the final possession of the first half and marched 66 yards over 10 plays and 1:53, capped by a
Nick Folk 26-yard field goal to pull within seven heading to the locker room. Coming out for the second half, Dallas was
once again on the move as it took the Cowboys just five plays to travel 57 yards on a drive that ended with a Romo to
Terrell Owens 10-yard touchdown completion.
The Redskins answered with a field goal on the ensuing possession to regain the lead, 20-17. The big play on the
drive was a 31-yard scamper by Clinton Portis, which was followed two plays later by a Campbell-to-Moss 17-yard
completion to give the Redskins the ball at the Dallas 6. Washington actually reached the end zone twice, but both plays
were nullified by penalties and the Redskins had to settle for Suisham’s kick. Portis finished the afternoon with a season-
high 121 yards on 21 carries.
After the teams exchanged punts, the Cowboys had the ball, first-and-10 at their own 37-yard line as the third
quarter was coming to a close. Romo intended a pass short to the right for Miles Austin, but Redskins rookie safety Chris
Horton stepped in front and made his NFC-leading third interception of the season. Washington could only manage 29
yards on nine plays on the resulting possession, but Suisham converted his third field goal of the day to give the Redskins
a 23-17 lead.
The Redskins defense, protecting a six-point lead, forced Dallas’ fourth three-and-out on the day, giving the ball
back to the Redskins offense, which chewed up 6:54 of the clock before Suisham made the score 26-17. Romo hit Austin
for an 11-yard touchdown with 1:48 to play, but the onside kick attempts went out of bounds and allowed the Redskins to
run out the remaining 1:42. Washington held the ball for 12:48 in the fourth quarter compared to the Cowboys’ 2:12. For
the game, the Redskins had a 38:09-21:51 time of possession advantage.

October 5, 2008 GAME 5 Lincoln Financial Field
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
REDSKINS 23, EAGLES 17
Washington defeated a divisional opponent on the road for the second consecutive week for the first time since
1987, by defeating Philadelphia, 23-17, at Lincoln Financial Field. To do so the Redskins had to overcome a 14-point,
first-quarter deficit.
Following the opening kickoff, Philadelphia started at its owned 20-yard line and took 6:34 to march 80 yards
in12 plays to make the score 7-0. Donovan McNabb converted four of his six pass attempts on the drive, including the
longest play of the series, a 17-yard completion to Brian Westbrook. Westbrook also rushed four times for 22 yards,
including a nine-yard touchdown to cap the drive.
After a three-and-out for the Redskins offense, Philadelphia’s DeSean Jackson returned Durant Brooks’ punt 68
yards for another Eagles touchdown, to make the score 14-0 just 7:13 into the game. From therej, Washington would reel
off 23 unanswered points.
Shaun Suisham connected on three second-quarter field goals to bring the Redskins within five points heading
into the locker room. The first capped an 8-play, 37-yard drive, which featured two Chris Cooley catches for a combined
24 yards. The Pro Bowl tight end finished the day with eight grabs for 109 yards and a touchdown.
Washington started its next possession on its own three-yard line before Clinton Portis provided some breathing
room with three rushes for 12 yards and a first down. Ladell Betts spelled Portis on the next two plays and carried twice
for 23 yards. After Jason Campbell was sacked for a nine-yard loss, the Redskins faced 2nd-and-19 from there own 29, but
Campbell completed two passes, one to Cooley for eight yards and one to rookie Devin Thomas for 16 yards to advance
the ball to the 37 and provide a fresh set of downs. Six plays later, Suisham hit a 48-yard field goal that banked in off the
left upright.
The Redskins got the ball once more in the half, with 55 seconds remaining, at their 18-yard line. Campbell
completed 5-of-7 passes, the final of which was a 17-yard strike over the middle to Cooley to the Eagles 32 and set up
Suisham’s third field goal from 50 yards.
After the teams exchanged punts to open the second half, the Redskins embarked on a seven-play, 75-yard
touchdown drive. On back-to-back plays, Campbell connected with Antwaan Randle El for 16 yards and Portis rushed for
21 yards, to move the ball into Philadelphia territory. Portis then rushed for seven yards and Campbell hit Thomas for a
12-yard gain to give the Redskins a first down at the Eagles 18. On the next play, Campbell handed to Randle El on an
end around, who then found Cooley in the middle of the field for a touchdown.
With 2:11 remaining in the third quarter, Randle El returned a Sav Rocca punt at the Washington 14-yard line and
returned it 28 yards. An unnecessary roughness penalty on Philadelphia tacked on 15 more yards and gave the Redskins
the ball at the Eagles 43. Portis carried on the first three plays of the drive, the third of which went for 27 yards to the
Eagles 7. After a three-yard rush by Betts and an incompletion the Redskins faced third-and-goal from the four, but Portis
found daylight up the middle and scored to make the score 23-14.
David Akers kicked a fourth quarter field goal to make the score 23-17, but the Redskins got the ball on the
ensuing possession and used the final 7:12 of the clock.

October 12, 2008 GAME 6 FedExField
Washington’s four-game winning streak came to an end to the previously winless St. Louis Rams in a
heartbreaking 19-17 defeat. The Redskins fell to 4-2, while the Rams moved to 1-4.
After being stalled at their own 47-yard line on the game’s opening possession, the Redskins were forced to punt.
Durant Brooks responded with a 50-yard boot that was downed at the Rams’ three-yard line. Following a one-yard rush
on first down, Rams running back Steven Jackson fumbled on second down and the ball was recovered by Washington
safety LaRon Landry at the St. Louis three. On the very next play, Clinton Portis plowed forward for the game’s first six
points.
Following a punt by each team, St. Louis started its third drive at its own 38. The Rams moved 29 yards in nine
plays, including a Josh Brown 51-yard field goal to make the score 7-3. The score remained the same until the final
minute of the first half. With 26 seconds remaining and Washington driving at the Rams’ 16, Jason Campbell’s pass
attempt was batted at the line by Rams defensive tackle Adam Carriker. Redskins guard Pete Kendall caught the ball and
proceeded forward before Rams linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa forced him to fumble. The ball was picked up by St. Louis’
Oshiomogho Atogwe and returned 75 yards for a touchdown, to make the score 10-7. It was the Redskins’ third turnover
of the first half after they had gone the first five games without an offensive turnover, the first team in NFL history to do
so.
The Rams took the opening drive of the second half and moved 56 yards in 12 plays, capped by a 25-yard field
goal by Brown to extend their lead to 13-7. After punts on the next three possessions of the game, the Rams took over the
ball at the Washington 33-yard line with 2:35 remaining in the third quarter. Three plays later Brown nailed a 44-yarder to
give the Rams a nine-point lead.
On the ensuing possession, the Redskins marched 59 yards in nine plays before settling for a Suisham 38-yard
field goal to pull within six points. After forcing a Rams punt, Washington took over at its own 27-yard line. The
Redskins traveled 73 yards on nine-plays, led by Portis’ 43 yards rushing, including a two-yard touchdown to give the
Redskins the lead.
The Rams took over at their 24-yard line. After a pair of Jackson runs, Marc Bulger connected with Donnie Avery
for 12 yards to the 44-yard line for a first down. Following an incompletion and a three-yard loss on a Jackson run, St.
Louis faced a third-and-13 at their 41. Bulger again looked for Avery and connected with him down the right sideline for
a gain of 43 yards to the Washington 16. Bulger kneeled on the next play, but St. Louis guard Richie Incognito was
flagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, moving the Rams back to the Redskins 32. Following a one-yard run by
Jackson, St. Louis called a timeout with two second remaining to set up a 49-yard attempt by Brown. Brown was
successful for the fourth time on the afternoon to give the Rams the 19-17 victory.
