n addition to the sawing in this project you’ll alsobe challenged to apply some surface texturing. You might choose to
chase
* a design into thosesurfaces, chemically or electrically etch them or piercethem. This one is pretty wide open to your thematicinclinations. You can use the design provided or comeup with your own.
1

Add texture to the face of the plate using anetching bit or drill bit, but not drilling all the way through the metal.
2
Adhere the pattern to the metal sheet andusing the lines on the template as a guide, cutout rst the exterior of the shape and thenalong the lines of the shape’s interior. (Seepage 16 for more on sawing.)

Light Switch Plate
ChasIng
is a technique similar to embossing leatherwork. Chisels, punches etc, and specially designeddecorative chasing tools are hammer driven, on a steelblock, into the metal surface leaving their particular shapein the metal. Chasing is also a forming process because you’re not r

metal you are

metal. Whenmetal at the chasing site is displaced it moves out of the way of the tool’s face to the sides.
