Should you be elected, what are three specific areas you’d like to change, address, improve or furtherresearch and how specifically would you go about it?
There are three major issues that will need to be addressed in the near future - school funding, hiring of a new superintendent and the need to create a new strategic plan for the Chardon school district. All of these are coupled with the need to maintain an excellent quality education for our students and onputting the student’s academic needs first within a framework of limited resources. The issue of funding can only be dealt with through fiscal responsibility, cooperation and effective twoway communication, both within the board and with the Chardon community. I will work to maintainthose lines of communication and be flexible and open to new ideas and approaches. I will look forareas where I can apply my business and management experience for the benefit of the Chardonschools community. We need to find ways of reversing the reduction in our educational programs, suchas the recent elimination of the business classes at the high school, due to budget cuts. With the announcement that Superintendent Joe Bergant is resigning in July, the board is faced with thesearch for his replacement. This is an opportunity to ensure we get adequate input from all in theschool district. I will work with the board to ensure that we create a process where teachers andcommunity can help identify the qualifications and personal characteristics of an appropriatesuperintendent for Chardon.
