Novena to the Holy Spiritfor the Seven GiftsAct of ConsecrationPrayer for the Seven GiftsDay One
On my knees before the great multitude of heavenlywitnesses, I offer myself, soul and body to You, EternalSpirit of God. I adore the brightness of Your purity, theunerring keenness of Your justice, and the might of Your love. You are the Strength and Light of my soul. In You Ilive and move and am. I desire never to grieve You byunfaithfulness to grace and I pray with all my heart to bekept from the smallest sin against You. Mercifully guardmy every thought and grant that I may always watch for Your light, and listen to Your voice, and follow Your gracious inspirations. I cling to You and give myself toYou and ask You, by Your compassion to watch over mein my weakness. Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus andlooking at His Five Wounds, and trusting in His PreciousBlood and adoring His opened Side and stricken Heart, Iimplore You, Adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, tokeep me in Your grace that I may never sin against You.Give me grace, O Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Father and theSon to say to You always and everywhere, "Speak Lordfor Your servant heareth." Amen.O Lord Jesus Christ Who, before ascending intoheaven did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finishYour work in the souls of Your Apostles andDisciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to methat He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdomthat I may despise the perishable things of this worldand aspire only after the things that are eternal, theSpirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with thelight of Your divine truth, the Spirit of Counsel that Imay ever choose the surest way of pleasing God andgaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome withcourage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God andknow myself and grow perfect in the science of theSaints, the Spirit of Piety that I may find the serviceof God sweet and amiable, and the Spirit of Fear thatI may be filled with a loving reverence towards Godand may dread in any way to displease Him. Markme, dear Lord, with the sign of Your true disciplesand animate me in all things with Your Spirit. Amen.
Holy Spirit! Lord of Light! From Your clear celestial height, Your pure beaming radiance give!
Only one thing is important -- eternal salvation. Only onething, therefore, is to be feared--sin? Sin is the result of ignorance, weakness, and indifference The Holy Spirit isthe Spirit of Light, of Strength, and of Love. With Hissevenfold gifts He enlightens the mind, strengthens thewill, and inflames the heart with love of God. To ensureour salvation we ought to invoke the Divine Spirit daily, for "The Spirit helpeth our infirmity. We know not whatwe should pray for as we ought. But the Spirit Himself asketh for us."
Almighty and eternal God, Who hast vouchsafed toregenerate us by water and the Holy Spirit, and hastgiven us forgiveness all sins, vouchsafe to send forthfrom heaven upon us your sevenfold Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel andfortitude, the Spirit of Knowledge and Piety, and fill uswith the Spirit of Holy Fear. Amen.

HistoryDay Three
The novena in honor of the Holy Spirit is theoldest of all novenas since it was first made at thedirection of Our Lord Himself when He sent Hisapostles back to Jerusalem to await the comingof the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost. It is stillthe only novena officially prescribed by theChurch. Addressed to the Third Person of theBlessed Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the lightand strength and love so sorely needed by everyChristian.
The Novena begins on the day after theSolemnity of the Ascension, Friday of the 6thWeek of Easter, even if the Solemnity of theAscension is transferred to the 7th Sunday.
Day Two
Come. Father of the poor. Come, treasures whichendure; Come, Light of all that live!
The gift of Fear fills us with a sovereign respect for God, and makes us dread nothing so much as tooffend Him by sin. It is a fear that arises, not fromthe thought of hell, but from sentiments of reverence and filial submission to our heavenlyFather. It is the fear that is the beginning of wisdom, detaching us from worldly pleasures thatcould in any way separate us from God. "They thatfear the Lord will prepare their hearts, and in Hissight will sanctify their souls."Come, O blessed Spirit of Holy Fear, penetrate myinmost heart, that I may set you, my Lord and God,before my face forever, help me to shun all thingsthat can offend You, and make me worthy toappear before the pure eyes of Your DivineMajesty in heaven, where You live and reign in theunity of the ever Blessed Trinity, God world withoutend. Amen

Thou, of all consolers best, Visiting the troubled breast, Dost refreshing peace bestow.
The gift of Piety begets in our hearts afilial affection for God as our most lovingFather. It inspires us to love and respectfor His sake persons and thingsconsecrated to Him, as well as those whoare vested with His authority, His BlessedMother and the Saints, the Church and itsvisible Head, our parents and superiors, our country and its rulers. He who is filledwith the gift of Piety finds the practice of his religion, not a burdensome duty, but adelightful service. Where there is love, there is no labor.Come, O Blessed Spirit of Piety, possessmy heart. Enkindle therein such a love for God, that I may find satisfaction only inHis service, and for His sake lovinglysubmit to all legitimate authority. Amen.

Light immortal! Light Divine! Visit Thou thesehearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill!
The gift of Knowledge enables the soul toevaluate created things at their true worth--intheir relation to God. Knowledge unmasks thepretense of creatures, reveals their emptiness, and points out their only true purpose asinstruments in the service of God. It shows usthe loving care of God even in adversity, anddirects us to glorify Him in everycircumstance of life. Guided by its light, weput first things first, and prize the friendshipof God beyond all else. "Knowledge is afountain of life to him that possesseth it."Come, O Blessed Spirit of Knowledge, andgrant that I may perceive the will of theFather; show me the nothingness of earthlythings, that I may realize their vanity and usethem only for Thy glory and my ownsalvation, looking ever beyond them to Thee, and Thy eternal rewards.
