Dear PBCites!!! Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. (James 5:16 NRSV). From our new Faith and Family Sunday School Class to almost half a dozen individuals I am currently counseling, this verse in James Chapter Five is ringing true and clear! There is something about coming face to face with our own humanity and allowing God's grace to break in on our lives. Lead singer, Mike Donehey, of the group, Tenth Avenue North, shared a video journal of a song they sing called, Healing Begins. As long as we are keeping the struggles we have to ourselves, we continue to put forth the idea that I can somehow save myself. It is God and God alone that brings about healing. And the healing begins as we break down those walls that we have built up. I want to thank all those that have confided with someone else about the issues they are facing in life. We look more like the community Christ has called us to be a part when we are willing to share our lives with those He has placed around us. My prayer is that Philippi Baptist Church would continue to be one of those places that fosters a safe place to be real. I also wanted to thank folks that have been coming to this church for decades who are embracing our new families with such love and acceptance. There is no substitute for sharing your experiences with someone who may just now be entering a similar season of life that you have already experienced. Philippi Baptist's strength is in the fact that we have all generations worshiping together! What a beautiful picture that makes. If we all can listen with open hearts and share with open arms, God's Kingdom will continue to go forward in His name! I was reminded this week that so many times we overlook thanking those that have served faithfully here at Philippi Baptist for some many years. We are indebted to all those that work tirelessly behind the scenes to see that all continues to operate and move forward! I'll let Tenth Avenue North have the final word this month. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mrs. Shirley Jacobs has announced her retirement as our church custodian as of October 1st, 2011. We are so thankful of the 20 plus years of faithful service she has given and will miss her greatly! The Board of Trustees will accept job applications for our 20 hour a week position till October 9th, 2011. Job description and applications are available in the church office and on the information table in the Narthex.
Just a note to say thanks to our Philippi Baptist Adopt-A-Highway crew who came

out on Saturday morning, September 24th to assist with our fall cleanup effort. At
about 9:00a.m., we spread out along our 2.2 miles of assigned highway, on Route 119 between the Covered Bridge and the Route 57 intersection, collected 13 bags of litter and trash, and were completed by about 10:15a.m.! Those participating included Barbara Smith, Scott Springer, Clarence Wright, Randy Moore and Craig Cobb. Thanks folks, for helping to keep Gods earth a little bit cleaner!

Right Where They Belong Tom and Lisa Dadisman recently joined Philippi Baptist Church because, they say, This is where we belong. Lisa explains. We church-hopped for quite a while, but none of the places we visited felt right. Then the Wolfes invited us to come here to their church, and we immediately felt welcome. We had no close friends here then, but we certainly do now. It is a place where, they say, they feel close to God. Its our sanctuaryliterally, Lisa smiles. We are supported and surrounded by people who want the same things we do, closeness to God and a sense of belonging. After their marriage and after living in Shepherdstown for a year, Lisa and Tom literally came home to Barbour County. Lisa was born in Elkins but has spent most of her life in Barbour County. Tom was born in Grafton but has always had family here, with his mother and sister and brother-in-law still living in North Philippi. Both Lisa and Tom attended Barbour County schools. After Lisa graduated from high school, she went into the U.S. Army but was injured and honorably discharged just a year later. She has a brother and sisterin-law still in the Army, now stationed in Pennsylvania but having traveled all over the world. Lisa later took courses through WVU to become a paralegal. In the meantime, Tom attended and graduated from Alderson-Broaddus and then graduated from the School of Pharmacy at WVU. The couple met in Elkins, where Tom was working as a pharmacist at Krogers and thats where Lisa discovered him. It may have looked like I was checking out the produce, but I was really checking out Tom. She laughs. I bought a lot of groceries in that store. We started dating, and we were married in 2002, exactly eleven months after our first date. Their son, Grant, was born in 2004. As a family, they enjoy hiking and travel, cycling and movies. And as for activities at PBC, Lisa serves as the church secretary, and she and Tom are volunteers for Wee Church and she in the Nursery. Whether in the Sunday School rooms or the church office or at Maces Pharmacy, the Dadismans are committed and enthusiastic representatives of Philippi Baptist Church and of the family of God.

Youth News
We gather at least once a month and do something special. Please put these dates on your calendar and be part of the fun. October 9th: Bonfire at Pastor Adam and Lisa Cheesemans home. Sunday Nite Lite: For youth (6th-12th grades) from 6-7:30p.m. We meet at PBC. It is a time that you will take part in worship , a scripture message, small group discussion and fellowship Senior High Convention November 18-20th at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. More details will follow.

FAMILY GAME NIGHT

Always the last Saturday of every month in the Fellowship Hall from 6-8p.m.. Bring your favorite game, a snack and a refreshment . This is for all ages. Come out for an evening of FUN!

ABWM NEWS
Attention all women: You are invited to hear our own: Jane Digman speak on the topic Jars of Clay. This will be held in the Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, October 4th at 7:00p.m. Bible Book of the month: Joshua

BOARD OF OUTREACH AND MISSIONS On October 26th, Philippi Baptist welcomes Pastor Dima Mikava along with his wife Lena and Translator Olga Danilova. From Korablino, Russia. Pastor Dima Mikava serves as pastor in Korablino, Russia, located about 120 miles Southeast of Moscow. Dima has become a leader in the community and in the region of Ryazan. Dima is a gifted speaker and loves to work with children and youth. One of the areas where Dimas has given leadership in Ryazan is through the Economic Development efforts of the Russia Mission Partnership of the West Virginia Baptist Convention. This project was partially funded through One Great Hour of Sharing and has been instrumental in helping to start several businesses in the Ryazan region, businesses which offer greater support to the location church. Dima has been blessed with a beautiful family. His wife Lena will be with him on this trip to West Virginia and they have three children, Nastia, Diman and Lena.

Associate Executive Director, Missional Life and Leadership

Marilyn Turner, Director for Programs etc for National Ministries will be our guest speaker on October 23rd. Turner currently lives out her commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ by serving as associate executive director of Missional Life and Leadership at American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS), Valley Forge, Pa. In that capacity, she provides leadership and direction for the missional ministries of (ABHMS), including discipleship, community and congregational transformation, intercultural strategies, caring and prophetic justice ministries, efforts associated with 9 Children in Poverty, and youth leadership development.
