Goban Tadanobu (Go-board Tadanobu) Main characters Sat Tadanobu Yokogawa Kakuhan

It is the middle of winter and Yoshitsune and his band are fleeing the persecution of his brother Yoritomo and are attacked by the Yamabushi warrior monks of Mount Yoshino, who are loyal to Yoritmoto. To allow time for Yoshitsune to escape Tadanobu, one of Yoshitsunes four chief retainers, puts on Yoshitsunes armour and in the snow in the middle of the pass at the crest of the mountain fights and defeats single handed the nagamaki wielding leader of the Yamabushi, Yokogawa Kakuhan

Note: Some time later Tadanobu was betrayed to Yoritomo by Maju, his mistress, and surrounded whilst in his tent. After defending himself with a heavy Go board, and killing many of his attackers, he escaped and joined up with the retreating Yoshitsune. Because of this event he is nick named Goban Go board Tadanobu
