Friends,
I
would
like
to
introduce
you
to
Romeo
Saganash:
a
leader
who
can
craft
a
common
purpose
from
our
many,
disparate
strengths
to
move
us
forward
together.
Romeo
was
raised
in
the
small
northern
community
of
Waswanipi,
Quebec.
He
is
a
residential
school
survivor
and
a
graduate
of
the
Universit
du
Qubec
Montral
law
school.
Multilingual,
he
is
fluent
in
Cree,
both
of
Canada's
official
languages
and
Spanish.
Romeo's
ability
to
bring
people
together
and
get
the
job
done
is
well
known
in
Quebec
and
around
the
world.
He
was
one
of
the
principal
authors
of
La
Paix
des
Braves
the
landmark
agreement
between
the
James
Bay
Cree
and
the
Government
of
Quebec
and
a
key
player
in
many
national
and
international
initiatives,
including
the
United
Nations
Declaration
on
the
Rights
of
Indigenous
Peoples.
A
lifelong
environmentalist,
Romeo
served
as
vice-chair
of
the
Cree
Regional
Authority
and
Chair
of
the
James
Bay
Advisory
Committee
on
the
Environment.
His
work
in
the
economic
sector
with
Creeco
Inc.
and
the
Eeyou
Co.
showed
his
understanding
of
how
to
balance
our
duty
as
stewards
of
the
land
with
sustainable
economic
growth.
In
politics
for
nearly
30
years,
Romeo
founded
the
Cree
Nation
Youth
Council
in
1985,
served
as
Deputy
Grand
Chief
of
the
Grand
Council
of
the
Cree
and
now
represents
Abitibi-James
Bay-Nunavik-Eeyou
in
the
House
of
Commons.
As
the
first
Indigenous
person
to
seek
the
leadership
of
a
major
federal
political
party
and
perhaps
our
next
Prime
Minister
Romeo
is
breaking
new
ground.
His
candidacy
is
inspiring
party
faithful
and
disaffected
voters
alike,
building
on
the
legacy
left
to
us.
Imagine
what
we
can
achieve
when
we
work
together.
Imagine
the
Canada
we
could
build
together.
Join
us
let's
start
moving
Canada
forward
together.
