Bilamana ruang yang berdekatan merupakan kategori dan superscripta yang sama muncul, sekat atau geladak diantara ruang-ruang tersebut tidak perlu dipasang jika dianggap tidak perlu. Sebagai contoh pada ketegori (12) sebuah sekat tidak perlu dipersyaratkan untuk daerah antara dapur dan pantri tambahan yang dilengkapi dengan sekat pantri dan geladak untuk mempertahankan kekedapan dari pembatas dapur. Namun sebuah sekat harus dipersyaratkan pada daerah antara dan ruang mesin meskipun kedua ruang tersebut merupakan kategori (12). b.
