Diverse Set of Districts Make Up Equity Center Plaintiff Group
(AUSTIN, TX) - More than 135 school districts across Texas have ofcially joined the Equity Center’slegal ght for fair funding for all Texas taxpayers and students. By passing resolutions to join the group, school boards across the state are sending the message that the current school nance system is unfair andunacceptable. As of noon October 4, 2011, 139 school districts have signed on (see next page for full list). Please note thatthe attached list is updated daily as more districts join our effort. The Equity Center will regularly releaseupdated lists throughout the upcoming weeks and months. The group of districts represents a diverse mix of urban, rural, large and small districts. The districts maydiffer in their size or geographic location, but they all share one common characteristic -- they are allunderfunded by the Texas school nance system, and their children and taxpayers are not being treated fairly. The Equity Center is a non-prot advocacy organization that was founded in 1982 to promote fair fundingfor all Texas school districts, regardless of their wealth. In addition to serving as a resource for every schoolnance lawsuit in recent history, the Equity Center regularly educates its 690 member school districts and the public on school funding issues and works closely with the Texas Legislature to promote policy that treats allTexas children and taxpayers fairly.
