RAND Corporation Building: Plan, circulation, and images

Mashup: RAND Corporations circulation/layout with Eliassons environmental variance and intensity

Mashup: Circulation diagrams

Environmental intensity and variance as a tool to filter people moving through space. Not everyone desires interaction all the time. Uncomfortable and confining spaces will be moved through more quickly than more open, comfortable spaces. By way of this environmental effect, people will have the option of traveling (through highly redundant circulation routes) through passageways that are more or less conducive to socialization and interaction than others. There are three levels of speed: fast spaces (marked in pink) are more narrow, with greater environmental intensity (whether it be color, light, temperature, etc). Medium spaces will be wider, more temperate, tolerable, and even enjoyable spaces to be in. Slow spaces are the actual courtyards, which will provide the most desirable environment of the three, including seating spaces.
