PursuanttoresolutionofJune23,1890,theSeventeenthAnnualSessionoftheAncientArabicOrderoftheNoblesoftheMysticShrineforNorthAmericawasdulyconvenedatNiagaraFalls,onTuesday,June9,1891,atnineo'clockinthemorning.TherewerepresentattheopeningtheentireOfficialDivan,excepttheImperialHighPriestandProphet,andImperialOrientalGuide,andalsothesixty-oneActiveMembers,aswellasalargenumberofNoblesfrompartsoftheUnitedStatesandCanada.TheImperialCouncilwasopenedinfullCeremonialForm.TheImperialPotentatethensubmittedanddeliveredhisAnnualAddress,fromwhichthefollowingisexcerpted:"ThereiscomparativelybutlittletonoteconcerningtheadvancementofourOrderduringthepastyear.Insomelocalities-notablywherenewTempleshaverecentlybeenestablished-thereappearstheenthusiasmthatalwayscharacterizestheadventofanewsocialorganization;whileintheolderestablishedTemplestherenowobtainsaconserv-atismbornofearlierexperience,whichtendsmoretowardthecultivationoftheassociationsandfriendshipsalreadyformedthroughtheinfluenceoftheOrder,ratherthanadesiretoincreasethenumericalstrengthbyanindiscrim-inateadditionoftheprofane.."ThefatefulmessengerofDeathhasinvadedourCouncilduringtheyear,wherebytwoofournumberhavebeencalledwithintheportalsoftheUnseenTemple.BenjaminDarling-ton,33°,ofPittsburgh,Pennsylvania,bornOctober26,1840,andwhodiedMarch7,1891,alsoWilliamNelsonBaldwin,bornatLaurel,Maryland,July31,1839,andwhodiedatCleveland,Ohio,March8,1891,arethetwoNobleswhohavetakentheirdeparture."BeyondthedutiesrequiredbytheConstitution,InotenoextraordinaryservicesperformedbyanyofficersofthisBodyofsufficientimporttocallformyspecialmention.ImperialauthorityhasbeengrantedinbuttwoinstancessincethelastSessionofourCouncil.IcommissionedIllustriousGeorgeWilliamMillar,ofNewYorkCity,toinstituteEIKatifTempleatSpokane;asimilardutybeingdelegatedtoIllustriousCharlesW.Cushman,ofBuffalo,toinspectandreportupontheconditionofDamascusTempleatRochester,N.Y.
