No minutes read or approved. Agenda (http://mbcluster2010.blogspot.com/2011/10/mtg-sep-29-task-force-tostudy-sdusd.html) Brian Catanzaro opened the meeting by summarizing the Cluster meeting from September 19, 2011, and explaining to newcomers what the District has in mind for Cluster realignment. He then opened the floor for members of the group to ask questions, air complaints, and share ideas. This open-floor period concluded about 7:10pm. After the open discussion, a motion was made to brainstorm ideas for realignment of the Mission Bay Cluster, along with a list of priorities the Cluster would focus on in making the best decisions possible. The ideas put forward are: Close the CPE site, and relocate the CPJMA program to the BVT site Close the BVT site, and relocate those students wishing to be part of the CPJMA program to the CPE site Create a K-8 program at the BVT/MBHS sites, closing PBE Create a K-8 program at the PBMS site, w/ an IB focus, closing both BVT and CPE sites Create a K-12 program (this idea was later retracted by the Task Force member who put it forth) Create a 6-12 IB Academy/single-site (where?) Boards proposal is at the MBHS site Close BVT site, divide those students up among the 3 remaining elementary school sites, based on new boundaries or other criteria Invite the District administrative offices currently at the old Mission Beach Elementary site to relocate to one of the Cluster sites, freeing up the MBE site for sale/lease/other use Create 7-12 program at the MBHS site; K-6 program at PBMS site, closing both BVT and CPE sites this idea will not work if IB remains the focus of our Cluster due to restrictions on the IB middle years program Close both the BVT and CPE sites, moving those students to other sites in the Cluster, including a K-8 program at the PBMS site Merge the La Jolla and Mission Bay Clusters to take advantage of the strengths of both communities this would like lead to the closure of the middle and high schools in one of the current Clusters Create a new District altogether, leaving SDUSD behind

The priorities of the Cluster, as they emerged from the discussion are: Focus on academic performance Increase local attendance Ensure a breadth of academic programs Exit Performance Improvement status for sites currently in PI

Based on the 10 criteria set forth by the District, upon which they based their realignment/closure suggestions, several volunteers stepped forward to examine the criteria, how they apply to our Cluster, and how they might apply to the ideas listed above.
