Rizal, Pillar of the Nation

He was a man of exceptional talent and intelligence, a universal genius and one of the greatest Filipinos who ever lived. Thats what Dr. Jose Rizal is. He served as an inspiration and a model for all of the Filipinos when we were under the oppression of the Spaniards. He has awakened the eyes of the Filipinos and helped them realize about the violence and injustice that they were experiencing from the Spanish authorities. He is a man that can be portrayed with so many achievements and accomplishments. These achievements and accomplishments surely give us inspiration in all things we do. Rizal was different from other heroes that we have known because he did not use a bloody revolution to fight against the Spaniards. Instead, he used a peaceful propaganda and diplomatic approaches in attaining Philippine freedom and independence. There is no doubt why he is proclaimed as our national hero. Because of his greatness, he gives us, Filipinos, something that we could all be proud of. Rizal could be compared to a father of a family. Just as a father is the pillar of a home as Rizal is the pillar of the nation. Like a father who disciplines and gives advices to his children, Rizal has also nurtured us to become good people of our country. He imparted his values and principles to awaken our minds and nationalism. Up until Today, Rizals influence still lives on. Starting from when we were a child, we already learn about the life of Dr. Jose Rizal and what he has done for us and our country. Students even have subjects wherein we could learn about his works. Some of the works that are taught are Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Through this we could learn a lot about our history and learn about things in life. And also by learning about his life and his works, we develop nationalism and love for our country. Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan. Ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit pa sa mabaho at malansang isda. These are some of the famous sayings that we learn from his life and works. These sayings have helped us become who we are today. It is Because of Rizal that we, Filipinos of today, have a great appreciation for the youth and great love to our county. By being a hero without using violent ways, he has taught us to become peace-loving people. The value of being a religious person, a loving and obedient son to his parents/family, a responsible student, a strong willed individual who stands for his convictions, the one who loves and serves the country are some of the virtues of Rizal that we could develop by learning about him. Learning and teaching about Rizal is something we should always continue to do so that the moral values of the Filipinos would not slip away and so that the next generation will continue to live up the virtues of Dr. Jose Rizal, the pillar of the nation.
