The Bat by P.Schultz is a poem that explain how the author compares the authors his son to a bat. , hHe compare his son to a bat because his son wakes up at night and sleeps all day like a bat that sleeps in the cave at day time and comes out at night to hunt.

The author compares how his son wakes up by saying "His eyes blink when darkness comes, his body stirs with life" and when his son comes out of his room he compares how the bat "sets out through the cave at night". In order to compare his son to a bat P.Schultz uses extended metaphor in his poem, My son is a bat. The author uses a lot of metaphors in this poem, such as "sets out through the cave of night explaining that his son wakes up at night and how he gets out of his room at night. The author also compares the moon to an eye watching his son by saying, "Moon a big white eye watching.". The author describes his son like how a as bat comecomming back to the cave. To conclude the poem, at the end the the author says that his son comes home or go back to sleep by saying "Flutters home, where he will sleep all day". These quotes show that the poem is an extended metaphor. The author also uses Metaphor metaphors to make the mood scary or and negative mood. For example, Tthe author says a cloaked Dracula, to the hollow of his room, Dracula and bats are usually represented as horror so it will make the reader feel scared. The author also builds the scary mood by explaining how the bat is out to hunt by saying "his limbs gorge with blood". When the author wrintes, says "Moon a big white eye watching" it also can make the reader scared because someone is watching you all the time. These lines from the Bat show how the mood is scary and negative. The form of the poem help P.Schultz to compare his son to a bat. , In the 2,3 and 4 line of the poem the first word in is His. , This that helps the author explain the action of his son when he wakes up at night and helps the reader be able to imagine what is going on in the poem. what the bat is doing really well. The author makes the mood scary talking about blood and Draculas and repeats the word his toto describe his son waking up at night. The message of this poem is that the author's son wakes up at night and do things and then sleeps all day like a bat that goes out and hunts at night and flys back to the cave at day time. This poem is a really good poems because the metaphor and the form help build the mood, making and makes it flow so the reader can understand and be able to imagine the situation.
