568F Propeller System

The new 568F six-blade Hamilton Standard propeller is

specially optimized for:
low cabin noise in climb and cruise and low vibration.

It features:
■ New PEC (Propeller Electronic Control)
■ New PVM (Propeller Valve Module),

ensuring:
■ Very accurate propeller speed and phase control (± 1
RPM speed and ± 1° phase holding)
■ Optimum synchrophasing between the two propellers,

and resulting in:

■ Optimum comfort even in turbulence.

Efficiency
ATR 42 and ATR 72 secondary structures are extensively made of composite
material, which are not subject to corrosion.
In addition, the ATR 72 innovates by the use of carbon fiber for its outer wings and a
composite tail, thus reducing weight further.

The in-service advantages of composites are numerous:

■ Immunity to corrosion and fatigue
■ Reduction of inspection
■ Payload gain and fuel savings.

Not including the commercial furnishing weight, the corresponding result for the
ATR 72 can be summarized as follows:

Composite

Hotel Mode/APU Comparison

The propeller brake represents the best compromise for the

operators because:

■ It is lighter than the APU.

■ It is economic
■ It can be maintained at low cost.
■ It has no effect on the engine life at ground idle.
■ It is installed as basic fit on the ATR 42 and ATR 72.

Unbeatable economics
Economy is a major advantage of ATR -500 series
aircraft, thanks to:

■ Low maintenance costs

Through simple, mature systems and design-to-maintain
philosophy
■ Commonality benefits for airlines operating a mixed ATR
fleet
■ Excellent reliability resulting from more than 11 million
hours of in service experience worldwide
■ Low direct operating costs
The ATR 72-500 has the lowest seat-mile costs in its market
segment.

Conclusion
ATR 72-500 RESPONDING TO MARKET NEEDS

The ATR 72-500 has been voted Best Regional Aircraft by Investors and
Operators (Airfinance Journal, Investors’ and Operators’ Poll, Sept. 2002, as
well in 1999, ranked second after ATR 42-500 in 2001).

This was not a surprise for the 43 operators flying routinely more than 280 ATR
72 worldwide.

They know why this aircraft is the industry benchmark for operating costs per
seat.

With the New Generation ATR 72-500, ATR is poised to maintain its leadership
in turboprops throughout regional airlines in the world.
