Rise in Public Sexual Assault & Harassment
From March 2011 to October 2011, therehave been more than a dozen cases of public sexual assault and harassmentreported to the NYPD in the neighborhoodsof Windsor Terrace, Park Slope, SouthSlope, Greenwood Heights, Sunset Park andBay Ridge. As shown in the map on the previous page,these attacks have centered around the Fand R subway lines from approximately 9thto 77th Street. The vast majority of theattacks occurred late at night between 10pm and 4am. Anyone with additional information on these attacks is asked to call the Brooklyn SpecialVictims Squad at (718) 230-4415.
What is Public Sexual Assault & Harassment?
Inappropriate sexual behavior from lewd comments to groping, flashing and assault are adaily, global reality for women and LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, andqueer) individuals. But it is rarely reported, and all too often has become culturally
accepted as „the price you pay‟ for being a woman or for being gay.
Sexual assault and harassment includes but is not limited to the following:
 
Inappropriate, unwanted or forceful touching towards any gender 
 
“Accidentally” brushing sexual parts of the body
 
 
Flashing or fondling with private body parts in public places
 
Passing lewd comments, sexual innuendos or sexually explicit gestures towards anygender 
 
Stalking and sexual assault
