Role context
Christian Aid is working with others to ensure poverty is over in the world. Transforming the lives of people who live in poverty today, and empowering them to lead change in their lives for the future is at the heart of our vision. This role needs to bring dynamic leadership to our staff team as they achieve high impact in our programmes, innovation with our partners, allies and donors. Christian Aid works exclusively through national partner organisations; the team needs to excel in the management of these relationships to achieve impact and lasting change. Relationships with donors in country and internationally are critical to our growth and success in the future. This role also needs a comprehensive understanding and advocacy experience in the Peruvian, Latin America and global context, ie the correlation between exclusion and poverty with economic, social, cultural and environmental rights.

Role purpose
To represent Christian Aid in a country and represent the agency's work in that country across the wider organisation. To be responsible for the whole of Christian Aids work in and on a particular country including the development of the country strategy, development and monitoring of programmes, communications and fundraising initiatives and general representation with external stakeholders.

Education and qualifications


The role holder must hold a minimum of a tertiary degree or equivalent. Ideally the focus in education will be on international development and/or a related certification in management.

Knowledge required
A general understanding of the drivers of poverty and its eradication are important to the role. A first hand understanding of the country within which this role is based is essential.

Relationships
Country Managers are members of the Divisional Management Group and report to the Head of Region. Country Manager must be fluent in both, Spanish and English, for every oral and written communication within the organization and with third parties. All Country Managers work across the organisation to promote understanding and awareness of the country and Christian Aids programme and to encourage and support both independent and collaborative ways of working and internal and external networking. Authority is delegated to the Country Manager by the Head of Region within a Framework of Delegation. The post holder will need to liaise with functional leaders for the particular country such as humanitarian response, advocacy and policy, and fundraising.

Decision-making
This role holder will be accountable for the efficiency and effectiveness of Christian Aids programmes. In particular the; overall management of programme to ensure strategy and annual plan objectives are met through quality programmes and partnerships and a sustainable funding base. overall financial management, including budget setting, monitoring and expenditure reporting for all sources of funding (restricted and unrestricted) There may also be an associated team of programme officers who will take the lead in thematic programme delivery. It is highly likely that this role will form part of a peer management relationship with another Country Representative/ Manager. This will primarily serve the purpose of accountability and mutual support.

Accountability for efficient local HR, IT and finance processes within the corporate framework and adherence to Christian Aid policies and procedures.
