The Seattle Board of Park Commissioners is a seven-member citizen board created by the City Charter. Three members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council; three members are appointed by the City Council; and one member is appointed by the Park Board. The Board meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month to advise the Parks and Recreation Superintendent, the Mayor, and the City Council on parks and recreation matters. The Park Board will discuss the fence removal and make a recommendation to the Superintendent at the Thursday December 8, 2011 meeting. Seattle Parks and Recreation invites the community to the Seattle Board of Park Commissioners monthly meeting and public hearing for the proposed fence removal at Madison Park North Beach. At this meeting, Parks staff will brief the Park Board on the history of Madison Park North Beach and the proposed fence removal project. The park is located at 2300 43rd Avenue East at E. Lynn St. and 43rd Avenue E. The public is encouraged to attend and express their desires and concerns for the future of this park. Seattle Parks and Recreation is purposing improvements which would allow access to Lake Washington by removing the fence along the shoreline and the invasive species growing out of the shoreline rocks. Enhanced public water/ shoreline access and shoreline habitat improvements could be implemented as a second phase to the project.
