Coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services, such as raw materials, equipment,tools, and advertising. They obtain product or service information, price, availability and deliveryschedule. Select products for purchase by testing, or examining them. Prepares purchase orders, bidrequests, review bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations all while keepingdetailed records and inventory.
SALARY: $34,500 to $70,500
• Excellent communication negotiation and organizational skills• The ability to analyze purchasing options and make purchasing decisions• The ability to work independently, part of a team or with many people• A bachelor's degree or college diploma in business administration required• Purchasing agents and ofﬁcers may require a related university degree or college diploma• A certiﬁcate in purchasing from the Purchasing Management Association of Canada may be required• Hands on experience either on a job site or in a warehouse setting would be an asset
• Consult with others in the organization to determine goods and services requirements• Develop strategic purchasing programs that company spending for speciﬁc commodities• Issue requests for information and proposals, and tendering contracts to ensure that the process is fair,competitive, legal and provides best value for the organization• Purchase the right quality and quantity, at the right time and price, from the best source• Trace shipments, follow-up undelivered goods, and resolve problems and disputes
