Notes for After Thomas

Sound: It was loud, blurred, you could here the actors, and it mixed the diegetic with non-diegetic. This produces the enigma code due to the fact that they did not match. The sounds if the cars going by and there horns were used as bridges. Mise-En-Scene: There are cars, the colour in the scene is quite dull, red cars drive by, this may signify danger is imminent, on the actors face, scratches, the cars going by shows that it is in a road which shows that it is more dangerous. The red used in the scene are connotations of dangers. By looking at the womans face you can see that there are scratches on her face, this shows that there has been some sort of conflict, and the actions of the child show that he does not want to be moved. Narrative time: Subjective time is used; this means that the audience can experience the time as the actors do. The cars going by have connotations to life going by, she is just stuck there while everyone else can get on with there normal lives. Narrative theories: Enigma code has been used when there is a contrast between good and bad with the diegetic and the non-diegetic music. The clip challenges Todorovs theory due to the fact that there is not equilibrium at the beginning. There are also binary opposites in it, this appears when the mother with the disabled child meets the mother with the normal child, also the disabled child is a boy, and the one without a disability is a girl. Editing: Colour correction has been used to dull down the shot, this is to signify that the woman actor is not happy, she is worried maybe and it also makes the reds which are passing by brighter, this is a connotation to danger. There is also a blur effect so that it compliments the slow motion which has been used; this has been used so that you can see clearly the expressions on the womans face. The editing is action so that the audience can tell that something is going to happen in the clip. Camera Angles: Over the shoulder view of the shop assistant makes the audience judge the mother then the backing characters reinforce it by not staring This also fits into Mise-En-Scene. There is a change to long shot to show that there is a man in an office, he is hardworking. When the woman is first walking to the shoe shop there is a long shot of her and the child, she is almost dragging him. There are also close ups on the womans face when she and her son are in the middle of the road. Camera movement:

Jake Chadburn AS Media Arcs are used around the shop door when they are walking in so that you can see where they are going, and when they are on the floor, it is almost a hand held view as you are close up.

Other: It has been made to show how difficult it is to live with a disabled child. There is a representation of disability. When the treat is handed over it is quite methodical.
