MEET

PREVIEW

Princeton
Invitational
With two weeks left until the America East Conference Championships, HeadCoach Matt Gittermann finds himself between absolute and uncertainty.
With thewomen
s team, we know who is going to compete for us at the ConferenceChampionships so for them we are just waiting for them to gel in a race like they havebeen in practice. However, with the men, we think five or six of them have stepped tothe plate, we just need the next five to raise their level of competition and seize theopportunity,
said Gittermann.The women
s team has been consistent all season with senior Keri Wilsonleading the charge, and a group of freshmen and sophomores who group together andcross the line quickly.
We have definitely improved since the first meet, and what I amseeing in practice in terms of preparation has been great. Once that reaches thecompetition site we should be able to do something fairly impressive.
The key for theRetrievers will be to get the second group together in a very tight pack and move themup the ranks. Freshmen Julie Gessler and Mary Katherine Kulp have been alternating asthe second and third runner through the first three races, however watch for KirstenMcGovern to make a breakthrough performance after a strong start at the Paul ShortInvite.
Our goal this race is to get our second through seventh girl to run in a tightgroup the entire time.
 The men
s team is going to be split into two races this weekend, with sixmembers in the Championship Race and the rest in the open race.
The ChampionshipRace group have been our consistent performers throughout the year and have lookedready for America East competition through every race,
said Gittermann,
while theopen race is going to be put the remaining runners on even footing, and thus give theman equal opportunity to race for one of the final positions.
The championship race will feature Brandan McGee and Sam Boimov, theleading runners in all three races.
They are both ready for a breakout performance inregards to both place and time,
said Gittermann,
and despite their improvement Ithink we are going to see the gap between them and Todd (Cowing) and Eric (Schuler)shrink this time out.
Joining them will be Chris Snyder and Nic Escobar.Coach Gittermann revealed that,
the Open Race is going to be where theexcitement happens.
This group of runners will be competing for an opportunity to runat the America East Championships in two weeks. The group includes runners whorepresented the team at last year Championships (Roy and Tim Jones, Vinny DiSalvo, andAndrew Smith), a track IC4A qualifier and Top Ten 5k Cross Country Performer (JakeAlbino), previous Varsity contributors (Tommy Eldridge and Jackson Reams), and a slewof new comers.
These kids are highly motivated and highly competitive, and to say thatthis is going to be a hard fought battle would be an understatement.
