TheDeficitCommitteehasbeenmiredinsecrecysinceitsinception.Itsmembers havemetrepeatedlywithlobbyistsandwitheachotherbehindcloseddoors, denyingthepublic,andothermembersofCongress,accesstoinformationrelevant totheireffortstoagreeonatleast$1.2trillioninbudgetcuts.

TheDeficitCommitteesdecisionswillhavemorelegitimacyifAmericansaregiven theopportunitytodigestandrespondtotherationalebehindanyrecommended cuts.Yourcommitteesrecommendationsareacriticalpartoftheprocessand shouldnotbehidden,assomuchoftheworkoftheDeficitCommitteehasbeento thispoint.
