A Letter from the Editor
First I want to start by introducing myself to you. I am ChristopherTaylor Davis, the editorand founder of G MAN Magazine.
This past May, I graduated from East Carolina Universitywith a degree in Women’sStudies with a minor inSociology. Over the years atEast Carolina, I was involvedin many exciting opportunities. One of the most important wasworking for the Thomas HarriotCollege of Arts and Sciencesas a Student InstructionalTechnology Consultant Assistant. Throughout mytime at the college, I designeda publication (Magnetic East), for the college and startedexperimenting more and morewith print design, there wassomething about it that I loved.During my college years, I wasalso involved in many activitiesthat focused on advocating forequality on campus and in theworld. The only way someonecan encourage change occur isby promoting change, speaking
out, and seing a good example.
Several months ago, Oprah and
her team released the rst digital/
interactive version of the Oprah Magazine. From the beginning I was fascinated by my excitementover reading a magazine indigital format. There is so mucha designer can do when creating
a digital/interactive magazine.
From that point forward, I knew I wanted to experimentwith creating my own “fake”magazine. As I started learningmore about the creation process,I thought, WOW, I have a greatidea for the next “modern man’smagazine.” The thought crossedmy mind how nice it would beto have a magazine that wastargeted towards men, like me,that didn’t focus on half-nakedindividuals, sex, looks, or wasnarrowly focused. What if I created a magazine that allows all
dierent kinds of people to share
their voices and found a way
to form a collaborative eort?So here we are with our rst issue
of G MAN. We will tackle thetough issues, but we also want tomake you laugh, inspire, intrigueand motivate you, to seek changein the world, to be more tolerate,to listen more closely and mostof all to be yourself. With thatbeing said, you will see our visioncome alive in the wonderfulcontributors we have lined up.
