PURPOSE OF THE CLASS KEYWORD.
The purpose of the CLASS keyword is to specify the classification or grouping into
which a particular job will be placed. In a Multiprogramming environment, where a variable
number of tasks can be run concurrently, jobs with similar characteristics are grouped into
the same job class. An attempt is made by the operating system to concurrently process
jobs with unrelated characteristics. Jobs with unrelated characteristics provide a good
processing mix. They tend to compliment rather than compete with each other for resources.
This in turn tends to increase the total through-put of an installation\u2019s operation.
