Dato’ Seri S Samy Vellu announcedon October 16, 2006 on the for-mation of Putera MIC, an off-shootof its youth wing, to rope in theyounger set aged between 18 and30.Party president Datuk Seri S. SamyVellu said Putera MIC was set upto provide opportunities to youngIndian youths to play an active partin community programmes andlocal politics.

Samy Vellu said theparty felt the energy of theyounger set was needed to organ-ize programmes for Indian teenag-ers besides providing them oppor-tunities to initiate recreationalactivities like camping, sporting andmusical classes."We also feel it is important tointegrate Indian youths in theiryoung age into the socio-politicalprocess," he said.

dilahirkan di kawasan pedalaman Sungai Siput, Perak.. Beliau amat cemerlangdalam pelajarannya dan kemudian memperoleh ijazah Sarjana Muda Saster dari Universiti Annamalai diIndia.Sejak kecil lagi, Tun V T Sambanthan sangat aktif dalam pelbagai kegiatan sekolah dan universiti.Kepimpinannya terserlah apabila dilantik menjadi Presiden pertama MIC ketika berusia 36 tahun.Pada tahun 1955, Tun V T Sambanthan membawa MIC masuk Parti Perikatan, satu parti campuranantara UMNO dan MCA untuk bertanding dalam pilihan raya umum yang pertama di SemenanjungTanah Melayu. Beliau bertanding di kawasan pilihan raya Kinta, Perak. Tun V T Sambanthan menang dandiberi kepercayaan untuk menjadi Menteri Buruh.Cabaran gentir ketika itu pula adalah pemecahan kawasan perladangan yang merupakan punca pencariansebahagian besar rakyat India Malaysia.
