oys from Cub Scout Pack 188 of Landing visited theGreat Swamp Education Center on Saturday,October 8, 2011 where they learned about variousspecies of flora and fauna along with wildlife, birds, trees,layers of a forest and how to determine the age of a tree.The boys then hiked the red, orange and blue trails to seewhat they learned and talked about first hand. They sawvarious species of trees, like the Red Oak tree which is theNJ state tree, along with painted turtles, and spiders. Withthis trip they completed their forester badges and their nat-uralist badges.

he Art Association inRoxbury will be hold-ing its annual ArtLoversAuction at the RoxburySenior Center, 72 EylandAve.,Succasunna, NJ on Thursday,November3rd.This year’s art auctionwillfeatureoriginalworksof art by local artists. This is agood chance to obtain beau-tiful paintings to decorateyour home or as holidaygifts. AAR members will bedonating both small andlarge paintings in all mediaand styles, so there should besomething for everyone’stastes. If you love art or needa gift for an art lover, this isthe place to go.All proceeds will go tosupport the arts. This yearthe Art Association inRoxbury will concentratingon raising money for fivedifferent charities. Theorganization will be donat-ing money to fund theawards for the annual “AllMedia Art Show for MorrisCounty Seniors and Personswith Disabilitiesandmoney to be used for art sup-plies at the P.G. ChambersSchool in Cedar Knolls.They will also present artscholarships to RoxburyHigh School graduates andCounty College of Morrisfine arts students. Lastly theorganization plans to make adonation to the RoxburyRecreation Center for theSenior Center, where the ArtAssociation in Roxburyholds its monthly meetings.In addition to lots of paintings, there will be somenew and gently used items toinspire your creative spiritincluding paints, brushes,pads, portfolios, canvases,books, paintings, prints,crafts, and craft supplies.Other items have beendonated by local merchants.These are all perfect for thegift-giving season.There will be a silent auc-tion of the smaller paintingsand items, followed by a liveauction of the more valuableitems and paintings. oy Scout Troop 188 of Landinghosted an overnight event for thesecond-year Webelos Cub Scoutsfrom Pack 188 that will be crossing over toBoy Scouts next February. They were invit-ed to see what they will be doing on futureBoy Scout outings and also so that theycould learn various skills important to aScout. They had several learning stationsfor orienteering, knife safety, chopping fire-wood, lashing and knot tying. They thenput their knot tying skills to test by buildinga monkey bridge that they then crossed.They also pitched their own tents andlearned how to cook their own dinner anddessert over a campfire. They ended thenight with a large campfire filled with funnyskits, campfire songs, jokes and most of alllots of laughs!
Scouts Have Overnight of Fun
 Boy Scout Troop 188 of Landing hosts an overnight event for second-year Webelos from Cub ScoutsPack 188 who will be crossing over to Boy Scouts in February 2012.
