27 September 2011 Dr. Cheryl L. H. Atkinson Superintendent DeKalb County Board of Education 1701 Mountain Industrial Boulevard Stone Mountain, GA 30083 Dear Superintendent Atkinson, I have been contacted by several members of the community around Briarlake Elementary who are concerned about the possible placement of a cell phone tower on the property of the school. I am aware that this process may be at an advanced stage but I thought I would be remiss not to share with you that many parents have concerns about the placement of this tower on the school grounds. I would also like to share my own concerns about the safety of these towers near children. In the past I have studied this issue and do have concerns that for some children these towers may possibly pose a health risk with the impact not being fully understood for many years. I would hope the DeKalb school system would reevaluate their position and decide not to allow these towers to go on property for elementary schools or areas where younger children spend a great deal of time. If you would like to discuss this information with me do not hesitate to call me on my cell phone 678-907-2723. Thanks
