Ollanta Humala sworn in as President of Peru

Ollanta Humala was sworn in as the new President of Peru and vowed to focus on eradicating social exclusion and poverty. During the ceremony from which outgoing President Alan Garcia was notoriously absent, Humala swore to uphold the Constitution of 1979 instead of the revised 1993 charter introduced by former President Alberto Fujimori, which sparked angry protests from Congressmen from Fujimoris party.
