DECLARATION OF DAVID H. REMESCOUNSEL TO HASSAN BIN ATTASH
Declarant, David H. Remes, comes now upon penalty of perjury and declaresthe following, which is true to the best of his knowledge, recollection, and belief.1.
My name is David H. Remes. I am an American citizen and a memberin good standing of the District of Columbia Bar. I have a human rights law practicethat I call Appeal for Justice.2.
I represent Hassan bin Attash, a Yemeni born in Saudi Arabia. Hassanis currently “detained” at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, one of 22 juveniles the UnitedStates has held there. Captured when he was about 16, Hassan has been held bythe United States at Guantánamo since September 2004.3.
Counsel has drawn the facts stated in this declaration from notes of hismeetings with Hassan. It was infeasible, however, for Hassan to review thisdeclaration prior to its filing because of the obstacles the United States has placedin the way of communications between Guantánamo detainees and their lawyers. Accordingly, all facts stated herein are stated on information and belief, and counselreserves the right to revise this declaration to reflect subsequent review by Hassan.4.
To summarize, Hassan was tortured by employees and agents of theUnited States in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Jordan, and Guantánamo, on theauthority, at the direction, and with the approval of George W.
