Tey are an opportunity to have un,dress Victorian, participate in race day, join the grand paradeor Victorian ball, go to the garden party, or just soak up theatmosphere - an opportunity to celebrate the past and present.Our district has a rich heritage o ne Oamaru stone buildingsorming an authentic backdrop to the yearly estivities. Teseinclude the Opera House, Museum, Gallery and all the historicbuildings in Harbour Street – the Southern Hemisphere’s largesttime capsule!Our extended area includes the mighty Waitaki River ramed inrolling landscapes and dotted with holiday homes. Te panoramao our district is huge - lakes, Elephant Rocks, Macraes goldmine, Moeraki Boulders, armlands and the mountains. Tearts ourish and we value a healthy environment, independenceand sustainability.Early settlers such as Sir John McKenzie, Tomas Brydone, andSir Arnold Nordmeyer not only set oundation stones or ourdistrict, they were leaders or our nation and the world. Now,as in the past, we are a constructive, riendly, energetic andinteractive community – and it shows.
