SHEEHAN: MAHANS FISCAL FAIRY TALE IS A DISSERVICE TO TOWN RESIDENTS

Supervisor Candidate Responds to Mahans False Claims of Deficit Elimination COLONIE Town of Colonie Supervisor candidate Denise Sheehan issued the following statement in response to recent claims by Supervisor Paula Mahan that the Town deficit has been eliminated: This is a dangerous and incomplete misrepresentation of the Towns financial condition, and amounts to little more than a disingenuous election-year soundbite, Sheehan said. Those of us who listened and understood the audit presentation know the alarming truth: the Supervisor took our deficit to the highest level in history, and continues to implement budgets that violate state law. The Supervisors financial update doesnt even acknowledge that the last 11 months have happened. She brags about solving a problem from 2010 and conveniently avoids any reference to the Towns negative fiscal performance in 2011. Residents dont deserve this kind of shell game with their tax dollars. Supervisor Mahan increased Colonies deficit by $11 million in only 16 months. That is a deplorable performance for any executive, especially for the individual who is expected to be the Towns Chief Financial Officer. To camouflage the fiscal irresponsibility that resulted in a $21.6 million deficit, Supervisor Mahan sold the towns top revenue-generating asset. The misguided landfill deal ignored the public because it was crafted to serve one persons agenda, and the Supervisor was determined to claim that the Town deficit was eliminated regardless of the facts. ###
