It is believed that the Romans could control such a hugeempire for so many years mainly because of their collaborative strategies, apartfrom their military might (of-course). According toBBC History,Romans were able to expand their empire by providing incentives for collaborating to the nativerulers and hence gaining strategic supports from them. Those rulers who wouldoppose would, in the course, meet defeat as they would not be able to match theincreased military might of the Romans in their region.So much for the collaboration, which has been defining the course of history! forward it to the today’s world and it is not much different. Collaboration still
holds a very important role in solving many problems as well as in drivinginnovation. Researches in various fields are done by the collaborative effort of theentire teams. Though there are crucial few scientists or researchers, who may berewarded for innovative thinking, it is the value gained out of many intelligentminds that come together in collaboration. The collective intelligence here isgreater than the sum of its parts. Even Apple has been able to bring out many game changing products under the visionary leader, the lateSteve Jobs,but not without the collaborative help from some of his key employees like Jonathan Ive and TimCook. Ive, the Chief Designer at Apple, has very candidly expressed this fact andWalter Isaacson , author of 
Steve Jobs: The Exclusive Biography,
has quoted this inbook too.If you now shift the entire concept of collaboration from physical world to thevirtual world, then you arrive at the fundamental of online collaboration. Just as inany other sphere of our lives, collaboration is also happening more and more viathe internet. Here one-to-one physical presence may not be needed every time forbrainstorming or tracking activities. The web interface with specialized featuresenables people to collaborate and encourages actions which simplify any type of team work. To put it simply, moving the collaboration online adds value to theexisting benefits of collaboration per se.
