will
not have realized their ultimate potentialfor space exploration after the project lunar
land in^
is complete.
To
ac-complish the Apollo lunar landing brogram,an immense hackloq of technalo~,facilities, and boostkr capability
swill
have been built up, and we believeproper utilization
of
this resource
will
fill the
needs
for
~lanetary, unar, and earth orbital space exploration for gears to cpme. In ~chieving he

and

a
few, Mthouphthese specialized areas have been pointed toward the lunar exploration
mis-
sion, numerous studies by
NASA
and industry have demonstrated the feasibilityof using the spacecraft, vehicles,
and
operating techniques for rnfssionsfarbeyond the lunar
land in^.
In this paper,
I
will
discuss some of' theseSaturn/Apollo missions which
lie
beyond the Apol2.o lunar
land in^
nroaram.
By
identifying these advanced uses of Saturn/~pollo ard~are o meet importantnational goals, we can amortize the large cost of the Saturn/A~6llo rocram
across
n
much wider spectrum of missions.Saturn, the vehicle designed for one mission,
will
meet the needsof the
country
in space exploration for
many
years to come. Since both the Saturn
IB
and
S~turn versions were designed for manned anpS.ication fron
the
outset,we can expect the continuation of theoutfltanding reliability record alrea4v

by the Saturn

vehicle.
By
using Saturn over

sions, cost per unit

a
future in
