luons don’t just happen instantly over night, they develop over long periods of struggle. So keepyour eyes and ears open for signs of a cominguprising, such as:Civil unrest prior to riots in the major cies.Policians and media blatantly lying about themost obvious developments.Censorship of social networks such as Twieror Facebook. This may not be enrely obviousat rst but when the sites are blocked completelythe warnings are clear (with excuses like childpornography).Censorship of old media such as newspapersand television (non-regime crical press).Arrests of polical oppositon leaders (In Tunisiathe leaders of the Pirate Party were roundedup and imprisoned without charge. The prisonwas subsequently burnt down with manypeople dying inside). In mes of crisis many rumours will spreadaround and fear mongering is rampant. Becalm, think before you act, act rashly. The #Hashtag of your country, or name of yourpolical leader is trending worldwide on Twier.Friends and family members living abroad maytry to contact you to check if you are alright.

Nominang leaders and contact people.Compile a census of the members of yourgroup, and ensure everyone gets to know eachother (or at least recognize each other).and act raonally. You are also arming the re-gime with propaganda that the crowd is madeup of a bunch of intoxicated rioters. Don’t allowyour movement to be portrayed in an unfa-vourable light. This Guide is for civilians who feelthey are about to be caught up ina violent uprising or revoluon tooverthrow the oppressive govern-ment of their country. Although arevoluon in favor of the people isa joyful thing when seen from theoutside, it can be a bloody mess forthose inside it.This guide will give you some basic ideas and psfor how you and your friends/neighbors/family canstay safe in the violent turmoil around you.It is not a ready-made recipe, but it contains generalsurvival taccs and strategies.
