ugust 4th, 2011 markedthe 12

anniversary of HPCD,Haitian Part-ners for Christian De-velopment. On August 4, 1999,three influential entrepreneurs,Mr. Ralph Edmond (Cofounderof Laboratoire Farmatrix), Mr.Ernso Jean-Louis (Cofounder of Red Star Market) & Mrs. SylvieTheard (Cofounder of ITALApasta), were inspired to eradi-cate poverty through sustainable job creation. These three dedi-cated individuals took uponthemselves to transform theirsociety by creating an organiza-tion which focused on creatingsustainable jobs in Haiti. Now 12 years later, over 3,350 jobs established, HPCD standsdedicated to their mission: toencourage strong entrepreneur-ship in Haiti and around theworld, that is based on founda-tional values, ethics, and socialsharing as stated in Biblical scrip-ture. HPCD, an organizationwhere our vision to see a coun-try full of employment wheresocial harmony lasts & economicdevelopment is based on entre-preneurship and sharing guidesour thinking and decisions.Yes, there have been challenges inthe last 12 years but we havenever given up and we arestronger because of it.We wanted to re-invite your or-ganization to partner with us intransforming our society; to mak-ing a difference in the lives of ourfellow citizen. The World in Conversa-tion Project ( WINC) of the Pennsylvania StateUniversity has presentlypartnered with the HPCDon an exciting initiative.Samuel Richards, seniorlecturer of Sociology, hasinvited a class 725 stu-dents to realize what iscalled the Haiti Project. The Haiti Project was puttogether to lend supportto the projects already inplay within HPCD andto initiate new pro-grams which will moti-vate job creation within the met-ropolitan area.As recounted, we recently gradu-ated a group of 34 innovativeentrepreneurs and a number of them have begun to partner witha variety of students from thePenn State Uni-versity to selltheir products, receiving men-toring, and be-come sustain-able .A small groupof engineeringstudents havedecided to cre-ate a new pop-sicle machinefor an entrepre-neur, Jo-hanne Rene, whose ma-chine broke down early this sum-mer. Another group of studentshave decided to partner with anew school in the Cite Soleil areaand send much needed supplies.DJ Seballos, facilitator coach atWINC, recently visited us in Haiti, and had the opportu-nity to collect valuable informationon these entrepreneurs to presentto these student abroad.HPCD has realized that the youth living in thesecamps are filled with potential & aptitude but re-gardless are unproductive. This has brought abouta partnership with the United Nations to re-launchour youth placement initative to train these youthwith vocational trades & place them in apprentices-
hips. HPCD believe that these youth are Haiti’s
tomorrow and investing in their future is investingin the future of Haiti.
