34TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE ACADEMY OF LDS DENTISTS

The 34th Annual Conerence o the Academy o LDS Dentists was a great suc-cess. We had outstanding presenters, an in-spiring reside speaker, inspiring exampleso humanitarian service, and riendshipsto make and renew. We appreciate all whoattended, and we eel like this is the bestcontinuing education experience available.Following is a brie synopsis o thepresenters:
discussed bonding systemsand composites and how to get a predict-able, long-lasting result. He cautionedagainst jumping on the latest generation o materials just because it is new. Some older products continue to outperorm “new and improved” products. I it is working or you, don’t be too anxious to change.
spoke about bisphospho-nates and dentistry. He reiterated that thehighest likelihood o developing BRONJ(Bisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis o the Jaw) is related to IV use during chemo-therapy. I you have a patient who has beenthrough chemotherapy, assume they havehad it and treat them accordingly. Oralbisphosphonates are less likely to causeBRONJ, but care must be taken the longer a patient has been on them. He later dis-cussed the use o acellular dermal matrix as a grating material or root coverage without utilizing the palate as a donor site.
reviewed the emergency pro-tocol or avulsed teeth and the importanceo using custom mouth guards to protectteeth. In the aternoon session he demon-strated a method o abricating a mouthguard that is simple and eective.

She elaborated on each o these topics and said, “Tough times call or tough strategies.” Excellent patient servicecan reactivate some ormer patients. Treatevery patient as i he were a piece o gold.
spoke about preventionusing fuoride and sealants. He said varnishis the best way to apply fuoride, and thatbonding sealants will greatly increase their retention. He discussed pulp therapy or primary teeth and restorative materials or pediatric patients.
discussed the advantageo using reamers rather than les to cleanand shape canals. He later expanded onthis topic, including the use o a reciprocat-ing handpiece that will greatly increase theease and speed o the procedure.

He encouraged us to usecaution and to not abandon an old riendjust because there is a new kid on theblock. He talked about how and what touse to cement these crowns.
FRIDAY NIGHT’S FIRESIDESPEAKER—ROBERT L. MILLET
Brother Millet gave an insightul and inspir-ing message about aith, hope, and thegrace o God. He told us to not be so hardon ourselves and to enjoy the journey. Hesaid that as long as we stay on the path, it will lead us to our Heavenly Father.

talk on joy, even as he struggles with thedeath o his beloved wie. I was ascinatedby
C. Robert Line’s
talk on justicationand sanctication. I especially loved themusic rom One Clear Voice.But the thing I loved the most was being with such wonderul and inspiring women,and men too. I eel blessed to be part o agroup whose primary purpose is to assistothers in need. I elt a wonderul, uniedspirit as we ended the conerence.I hope you are all preparing or next year;it will be equally amazing! We have a ew things already in the works, and you willall be pleasantly surprised. We plan onincluding some kind o service and will begiving out prizes. Best o all, we are plan-ning a beautiul musical program aboutthe Savior, with some amazing talent. Tellall your riends that this coming year is the year they won’t want to miss!
