This is a DRAFT vision or 2025 and an action plan or getting usthere. The action plan builds on local survey ndings in which over1500 residents in the Dunbar and East Linton ward area have beeninterviewed. These surveys have highlighted a strong desire to beable to source more locally produced ood, live in more comortableand energy ecient homes in neighbourhoods which are sae andattractive to walk and cycle around, or increased opportunitiesor local employment … and much more. The surveys have alsohighlighted the many barriers which currently prevent us all romdoing many o these things.
Dunbar 2025 –Local Resilience Action Plan
What is this all about? We live in interesting times!
In the next teen years, because o the decline in world oil production, as well as the need to meetScottish Government Climate Change targets, we will need to at least halve our ossil uel consump-tion. That means each o us reducing our consumption by about 5% per year, every year.As oil production declines, we can expect the oil price to increase and to become increasingly volatileand or supplies to be subject to disruption. Major changes (at the very least) to the workings o theglobal economy will be inevitable. We can also expect an increasing number o extreme weather events due to the raised level o energyin the atmosphere as average global temperatures increase.Given these challenges, what will this localitylook like in 2025? How can we build a vibrantlow-carbon economy or the Dunbar area whichis resilient enough to cope with the challengesthat we will ace? The Action Plans will show how we might startcreating a more localised, vibrant and resilientlocal economy which can not only help us tocope with the major challenges which lie aheadbut which, we believe, can create signicant op-portunities – or meaningul work, to developnew skills, to strengthen community networksand working to enhance the local environment. Please take a look.
