For PC Users:

Even though you may be used to using Word, I suggest using the program Pages (iWork) instead. I know its hard to switch once you are used to a certain program, but after I did I rarely use Word unless I have to. Its much easier to work with graphics & they can be manipulated more smoothly. Plus, it is linked to your iPhoto, iTunes, Movies, etc., for seamless integration of media into your document.

The tutorial for Mac users begins below through page 4.

For Mac Users:

Before You Begin - Mac Users Two basic tips for Microsoft Word for Mac newbies:
Make sure you can see the Formatting Palette (View > Formatting Palette). See what it looks like, below. Also, when you have the text selected, you will see the text menu options in the palette. To get the object menu options, you need to select the frame (or other object). See examples below.

This (image on left) is the pop-up Formatting Palette. When text is selected, you will see the text menu option . The palette for objects is shown on the right. Click on the little triangles to hide or show the options for that category.

This is what the Formatting Palette looks like when an object (like the frame or clip art item) is selected.

1. Drag your frame from the file directly into your Word document. Position it on the page how you would like it to appear. 2. If you need to make the length longer without sizing the width, unclick on the box that says Lock Aspect Ratio in the Size, Rotation, and Ordering menu. Then you can make it longer but keep the width the same (or vice versa).

3. Then click on the text box button (the one with an A and a cursor). If you dont see this palette, click on View > Toolbars > Drawing. Then it should appear.

4. Once you click on the text box button, it gives you a + as your cursor (or cross hairs). Draw the text box where you wish your text to appear.
(Oops...looks like I drew mine a little off center. lol This can be fixed by clicking on the object and dragging it to where you want it or using the arrow keys to move it over. You can also click & hold the anchors on the corners or sides to adjust the width or height of the object.)

5. Type the text you want. You can edit just like normal and you can click on the corners to move the box if you need to, as well.

6. If lines are showing up around your text box (like a border), select the Color Weights and Fills menu and click Color, then select No Line.
