A BINOMIAL TIMES A BINOMIAL
To multiply 2 binomials together, we need to make sure that each term in each binomialgets multiplied by each term in the other binomial. To help us do this, there is a usefulacronym that helps us remember which terms we must multiply. The acronym is:
FOIL:
F
irst: multiply the first terms in each binomial by one another
O
uter: Multiply the first term in the first binomial by the last term inthe second binomial
I
nner: Multiply the last term in the first binomial by the first term inthe second binomial
L
ast: multiply the last terms in each binomial by one another
