We are honored that one of our members,Colonel William J. Beiswenger Jr., was awardedthe Major General Anthony J. Drexel BiddleAward at the National Meeting in WashingtonD.C. recently. COL Beiswenger currently servesas Director, Joint Directorate of Intelligence andDomestic Operations, Florida National Guard.He has been actively involved with AUSA formany years, serving in a variety of positions, toinclude Third Region (Southeast) President andState President for Florida.Colonel Beiswenger received the award for hisoutstanding contributions to the Association of the United States Army and its Third Region. AtNovember’s General Membership Meeting andDinner, Colonel Beiswenger will briefly discusshighlights from the National Meeting.

COL Bill Beiswenger Presented Top Award at AUSA National Meeting
First Militia chapter presented four $1,000scholarships during its August generalmembership meeting and dinner. Havingintroduced two new award categories inaddition to the customary “GeneralMembership” category, awards included:Enlisted/Non-commissioned Officer category:YasminBlackman, daughter of SGM (Ret)Daniel Blackman; Combat Veteran category:Taylor Duren, son of COL J.M. “Mickey”Duren and Nora Scheland, granddaughter of BG (Ret) Eugene Lanzillo; and GeneralMembership category; Zachary Brown, son of Suzanne Brown. Three of the four recipientsattended the dinner and were presentedchecks by chapter president COL (Ret) DonWorkman. Recipient Nora Schelandwasunavailable, as she had already reported toBryn MawrCollege, Pennsylvania to beginher studies.In addition to meeting establishedqualification criteria, each applicantsubmitted an essay on a military topic of theirchoice. During the presentation, LTC RobKeating, Vice President for Scholarships andAwards, recited excerpts from each recipient’sessay, all of which centered on what we knowas the Seven Army Values and focus onSoldier and Family care. We once againcongratulate these most deserving youngpatriots.We extend the chapter’s gratitude toScholarship Evaluation Committee ChairCOL Christopher Miller and members COLDavid Rodgers and MAJ Betsy Evans forvolunteering their time and talents to evaluatethe applicants.
