Introduction:
This report summarizes statistics associated with the adoption and use of eprescribing at the state level for years 2008 2010. The statistics containedin this report have been compiled by Surescripts®, the Nation's EPrescription Network. Founded on the principles of neutrality, transparency, interoperability,efficiency, collaboration and quality, Surescripts connects prescribers in all 50 states and the District of Columbia through their choice of eprescribing software to thenation’s leading payers, chain pharmacies and independent pharmacies.Surescripts' annual SafeRx rankings measure the level of eprescribing activity in each state and the District of Columbia. Rankings are calculated to reflect all threecritical steps in the eprescribing process: total number of responses to requests for patient eligibility information as a percentage of total patient visits, total number of responses to requests for patient medication history as a percentage of total patient visits, and the total number of prescriptions routed electronically to both retail andmail order pharmacies (new prescriptions plus responses to prescription renewal requests) as a percentage of all prescriptions within a state that are able to besubmitted electronically.
