Preparationfor War
Joining Up:
 After Fort Sumter fell to the South,Lincoln looked for volunteersbecause he knew that it would bean unavoidable fight. In the north,there were many volunteers. Later,however, there would even be adraft where any man of 25-40years of age must be ready to goto war.
Training:
The army mostly consisted ofunexperienced farmers orimmature young people. It wouldtake a lot to train them, and theirlack of training will bring themtrouble later on. (Ex: First Battle ofBull Run)
Equipment:
The North, which was moreadvanced and had bettertechnology, were better equippedwith weapons and any othergoods. Their soldiers were wellfed, and they had a good supply ofammunition. This could also bebetter transported by their moredeveloped railroad system.
RESOURCES
The Union was
very industrialized and had many factories, which meantthat they could manufacturegood more efficiently and hada bigger supply of things like weapons. Also, they had avery good railroad system, which meant that they not onlyhad good communication, butalso had a good source oftransportation to transporttheir goods.
