Context
The Lost world by Arthur Conan Doyle tells the story of Edward Malone, a reporter whom along with famed scientist George Edward Challenger venture deep into the heart of the Amazon. They eventually reach uncharted territory in which prehistoric creatures still survive. Written in 1912 it was renowned for its descriptive and expressive surroundings. The undiscovered plateau in which the expedition discover is rife with thick vegetation and huge redwood trees that dwarf everything around them. A large river runs through the plateau, glistening with vivid colours and almost alive. The Plants growing throughout the Lost World are perhaps defining feature in the scenery as they almost swallow and engulf you into the undergrowth

Children of Men directed by Alfonso Cuarn tells the story of a world where the human race is unable to reproduce. As the human race is on the brink of extinction, the world descents into chaos. Theo Faron played by Clive Owen is a civil servant whom must help a pregnant refugee to a safe boat. The set of this film is arguably what draws the viewer into this almost post apocalyptic warzone. This essay will break down and analyze the set and concept design of The Children of Man.
